Review: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

After a terrible car accident destroys her life as she knew it, twenty-year-old Kacey escapes to Florida, where she encounters an irresistible man determined to capture her wounded heart.

Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel them. Love them.

Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, Kacey and her fifteen-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. They’re struggling to make ends meet at first, but Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means revealing an explosive secret that could shatter both of their worlds.

Why I waited so long to read this, I will never know. This is going in my top picks for the year. I am so in love with this book! It’s kind of one of those life changers. You know how we get some books that are just so deep that we have no choice but to remember them forever and we are forever hooked on the story. This is one of them.

This book hooked me from the beginning. It is a little dark, which I very much enjoy (I can’t take all of that sappy crap all of the time). The author has a writing style that just capitates the reader. There wasn’t much skimming at all for me in this one; I just had to soak in every last word. The friendships and bonds that are created in the book just flow. It’s not awkward, or like why is that person even in the story. Every character had a reason. I love every character. Even though some do very stupid things at times, I understand why they do what they do and it just makes me kinda swoon even more.

The heroine, Kacey, is very sarcastic. I love my sarcastic girls! They make books seem more real to me, being that I am a sarcastic myself, lol.

“Must have been some kind of nightmare.”
“Yeah,” I answer, my usual calm, vacant voice returning. “Can’t wait to wake up.”

The best friend across the hall that seems like a human Barbie, turns into so much more. There is even a younger sister that should be bratty given the circumstances they are facing, but she isn’t. She is like a saint. Then there is Trent….ahhhhh Trent…..

Even his name out loud sounds hot. Trent. Trent. Trent. Stop it, Kace.

Trent, Trent, Trent. He will definitely make you swoon. But even though he is super swoon worthy, he isn’t what made the book for me. It was the entire picture. Every single word that I read is what made me continue and never want to top. My bond to the characters helped make the story, but the actual story in itself, is what did me in. I remember having the moment when I was like I think this is what’s going on….then I was like nooooo, that’s too cliché. Then in the end I was like stupid, stupid gut! Why do you have to be so right!!

Anyway, this is an EXCELLENT book. It is highly recommended by me. If you are into the darker stuff that will still captivate you heart, you need to read this one.
