Blurb:
It’s one thing to bring the woman you love back into your life. It’s another to try and keep her there. For Dex Foray, convincing Perry Palomino to open herself to their burgeoning relationship has been more challenging than hunting ghosts, battling demons and stalking Sasquatch combined. Add in the fact that the only way they can keep their Experiment in Terror show running is to take on a third partner in the form of the mysterious Maximus Jacobs — all while investigating a sinister voodoo sect in New Orleans — and you’ve got the perfect Southern storm and a recipe for disaster. Luckily, Dex has never been one to back down, even when his life –and heart — are on the line.

Come Alive is told from Dex’s POV.

Excerpt:
I whipped around and pulled out the elevator’s STOP button. The elevator lurched then came still.

“What are you doing?” she screeched, wild-eyed.

“Nothing you need to worry about, baby,” I told her, placing both hands on either side of her head and kissing her hard, hard enough that she was flattened against the wall. We didn’t discuss it, but we naturally played our relationship cool in front of Jimmy. Now I was making up for lost time.

I bit her lower lip, pulling it between my teeth. She moaned and I smiled.
“You ever had sex in an elevator?” I asked, taking my mouth to her sweet neck and alternating between wet licks and fierce sucks. I didn’t care if she ended up with a million hickeys. The more the better.

“No.”

“Anywhere in public?”

“Does a Canadian national park count?” she whispered, sounding both turned-on and uneasy.

“No, it doesn’t,” I murmured, my hands cupping her breasts now. “Sounds like something we have to fix, doesn’t it?”

“Isn’t this illegal?”

I pulled away and looked at her. “Elevator malfunction. Living it up while I’m going down.”

She smiled and then arched her back to give me more access to her fantastic breasts. “You can’t use Aerosmith as an excuse.”

“I can do anything I want,” I grunted, pressing my erection into her hip.
“My goodness,” she exclaimed at the pressure.

I grinned, my hands folding down her bra and rolling her nipples between my fingers.

“I told you. I’m always hard for you, I’m just good at hiding it. Which, actually, isn’t easy when your dick is the size of your leg.”

She laughed and lowered my head to her breasts, my mouth yearning, searching.

“Hello?” a voice said from behind me.

Startled, I turned around, expecting someone in the elevator with us. I was probably expecting it to be inhuman as well.

But the voice repeated. “Hello? Are you okay? Is this car two? I have reports you have stopped.”

Shit. It was the security on the speaker. In some elevators, pulling out the stop button just stops the elevator. I guess in this one it alerted security. Cockblockers!

Review:
So how do you act after you finish a book by Karina Halle? You simply don’t. There is no possible explanation for what goes on with you body after you finish one of her books other than it goes into utter shock, withdraws and then the depression stages can begin, lol. No matter how hard many of us try to prepare ourselves for Karina’s books…. this still happens. Her books are my crack and my body doesn’t know how to function when I have finished one.

This is my number 1 of the year all around! It is the best read of the year and it has been my most anticipated book of the year. It has not taken the place of my favorite EIT book (Lying Season, Book 4) but it is still near and dear to my heart, as all of the others of the EIT series are. People that have not yet read the series will not understand the need for this book. If you have yet to read it, join in with us and grab Book 1, Darkhouse, it’s free….it’s always free!!

I really don’t want to give too much away, but there is no way for me to explain how I feel right now without giving some stuff away. I promise no major spoilers.

Ahhhh, finally some Dex and Perry time!! Just what we have alllll waited for! This is really what I thought I needed…but after getting it, I kind of missed the longing and back and forth between the two. Of course I want and need them to be together, but I swear I am a hypocrite; I kind of miss them being apart. The chase between the two of them was fun and I don’t know how my mind handles cuddly, lovey, dovey Perry and Dex, lol. I like horny, smart ass Dex.

Don’t get me wrong, we still get horny Dex. I mean major horny…he can’t keep his hands of Perry, but I feel like he lacked some of his smart ass, or maybe it was just over shadowed by the tremendous feelings he has for Perry.
I thought everyone should care that I fucked Perry last night and fucked her good. Perhaps I needed to get an airplane to write that in the sky. I knew an auburn-haired snatchslinger who needed to see it.

I was however pleased that Dex’s feeling toward Maximus hadn’t changed. That’s right….he is BACK! As I read that he was back all I could think of was "why can’t he just die!!!!!” And here comes the horror….by the end of the book I couldn’t believe that I had ever thought that. It’s like somehow, down the line, my heart developed a soft spot for ol’ ginger balls and I was kind of rooting for him….INSANE I KNOW!!!

EIT fans, you need to get on this book now!! Newcomers, hurry catch up! We have so much to talk about! I am always up for talking about my favorite series of all time! 5 stars.

Playlist:

There are not as many musical references in Come Alive as in the other EIT books, so I am going to incorporate it in with my review. Enjoy!

But I was singing to Dillinger Escape Plan, which negated all girlyness. It's true, I looked it up.

Sir Mix-A-Lot and I had a lot of things in common

The rest of the time I just sat back and listened to the new Slayer album, feeling more connected to Perry by listening to her favorite music.

I guess there was a romantic, girly-girl somewhere beneath that Mastodon t-shirt.

"Because President Bush don't care about black people," she deadpanned in a Kanye West impression.

"I can do the mambo," I said. "Mambo Number Five." Perry let out a derisive laugh. "Thanks, I just got that song out of my head."

I looked at the guitarist and said "Hit it, boys." They sprang into a sparse but soulful rendition of Otis Redding's "That's How Strong My Love Is."

And Slayer's "Dead Skin Mask" came blaring out of the speakers, as if we were listening to that song at high volume just before the truck died.

She was wearing jeans, chucks and a Faith No More shirt she'd cut into a tank top.

A Foo Fighters song came on in the bar and Rebecca got up. "Care to dance with me, Dex?" she asked, batting her eyes. She looked to Perry. "You're next, by the way."

On another side note, anyone that knows me knows my number 1 band of all time is the Foo Fighters. So this below from Karina Halle just makes my day!! Squeee!!!!
Karina says--Inspiration: Like I do with most books, this is named after a song. These lyrics from the Foo Fighters “Come Live” really resonate for me:
Nothing more to give
I can finally come alive
Your life into me
I can finally breathe
Come alive

I lay there in the dark
Open my eyes
You saved me the day that you came alive

About the Author:
The daughter of a Norwegian Viking and a Finnish Moomin, Karina Halle grew up in Vancouver, Canada with trolls and eternal darkness on the brain. This soon turned into a love of all things that go bump in the night and a rather sadistic appreciation for freaking people out. Like many of the flawed characters she writes, Karina never knew where to find herself and has dabbled in acting, make-up artistry, film production, screenwriting, photography, travel writing and music journalism. She eventually found herself in the pages of the very novels she wrote (if only she had looked there to begin with).

Karina holds a screenwriting degree from Vancouver Film School and a Bachelor of Journalism from TRU. Her travel writing, music reviews/interviews and photography have appeared in publications such as Consequence of Sound, Mxdwn and GoNomad Travel Guides. She currently lives on an island on the coast of British Columbia where she's preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

  1. OMG!! I laughed so hard at your review!! I was horrified by my Maximus feelings, too. I'm still trying to come to terms with it. Help!
